Connect a Bluetooth printer

How to pair a TSPL, CPCL or ESC/POS thermal printer and run a test print.

Updated on

EtiquetaChef prints over Bluetooth Classic SPP in three protocols: TSPL (Zebra-like), CPCL and ESC/POS. Most professional label thermal printers fall into one of these three.

Pair the printer on Android

First, pair at the system level:

  1. Turn the printer on and put it in discovery mode (usually by holding the FEED button for a few seconds).
  2. Open Settings → Connected devices → Bluetooth on Android.
  3. Tap Pair new device and select the printer.
  4. Confirm the PIN if prompted (0000 or 1234 for most models).

Add the printer in EtiquetaChef

With the printer paired at the system level:

  1. In the app, open Printers.
  2. Tap Add printer — the app lists devices paired in the system.
  3. Select yours and pick a protocol (TSPL, CPCL or ESC/POS). When in doubt, start with TSPL.
  4. Confirm label width (40, 50, 60 mm), DPI (203 or 300) and gap size.
  5. Tap Print test — a label comes out with text, a barcode and the parameters. If it’s legible, you’re done.

If the test prints blank, with garbled characters or cropped, switch the protocol. Most issues are solved by toggling between TSPL and CPCL.
